چکیده

An adaptive Helmholtz resonator was designed and adapted to hydraulics. The resonator was controlled by openand closed-loop controls so that 20 dB attenuation of the peak-to-peak value of the pulsating pressure was maintained. The closed-loop control was noted to be better, albeit it was slower because of its low pressure and temperature variation, which caused variation in the effective bulk modulus of the hydraulic system. Low-pressure hydraulics contains air, which affects the stiffness of the hydraulics, and temperature variation changes the viscosity of the oil. Thus, an open-loop control loses its efficiency if a condition such as temperature or the amount of air changes after calibration. The instability of the low-pressure hydraulic system reduced the operational frequency range of the Helmholtz resonator when compared with the results of an analytical model. Different dampers for hydraulics are presented. Then analytical models of a hydraulic pipe and a hydraulic pipe with a Helmholtz resonator are presented. The analytical models are based on the wave equation of sound pressure. Finally, control methods and the results of experiments are presented. Helmholtz resonance in a piezoelectric–hydraulic pump-based hybrid actuator

This paper demonstrates that a hydraulically acting Helmholtz resonator can exist in a piezoelectric–hydraulic pump (PHP) based hybrid actuator, which in turn affects the volumetric efficiency of the PHP. The simulation and experimental results illustrate the effect of Helmholtz resonance on the flow rate performance of the PHP. The study also shows how to shift the Helmholtz resonant frequency...

Investigation on Multi-Helmholtz Resonator in the Discharge System of Rotary Compressor

In the design of rotary compressor, Helmholtz resonator is always used in the discharge port of cylinder to reduce noise. The effect of Helmholtz resonator on the discharge port is restricted because of the narrow frequency band of Helmholtz resonator. In this paper, multi-Helmholtz resonator on the top-flange is used to reduce the discharge noise of different frequency bands, which does not ch...

The Helmholtz resonator is a prototype of a single acoustic resonance, which can be modeled with a digital resonator. This paper extends this concept by coupling several Helmholtz resonators. The resulting structure is called a Helmholtz resonator tree. The height of the tree is defined by the number of resonator layers that are interconnected. The overall number of resonance frequencies of a H...

Understanding of the Flow Behaviour on a Helmholtz Resonator Excited by Grazing Flow

Grazing flow passing over the quiescent fluid inside the cavity of a Helmholtz resonator can excite the resonator. When the frequency of the instabilities within the shear layer is near the natural frequency of the resonator then flow-excited resonance will occur. This process causes self-sustained periodic oscillations of the flow over the orifice of the resonator. Quantitative numerical predi...

Compact acoustic bandgap material based on a subwavelength collection of detuned Helmholtz resonators

This study explores the amplitude and phase transmission of audio-frequency sound through a waveguide side-loaded with a series of closely spaced and sequentially tuned Helmholtz resonators. This system exhibits a series of acoustic bandgaps due to the Helmholtz resonance and standing-wave cavity modes. The bandgaps are achieved in a physically compact manner in that the resonators are spaced b...
